For May Day this year, Back 40 Farm Group invited friends, family, patrons, and food-lovers to celebrate our community and welcome the much anticipated warm weather.

Spring was in the air as guests relaxed with live music on the sun-filled patio at our own Mill Street Bar & Table. Guests enjoyed wine, cocktails, and a seasonal menu demonstrating the culinary brilliance of Chef Ian Vest. From passed dishes of rigatoni bolognese to an open charcoal grill serving up beautiful farm fare, food and drink flowed until long past sundown.

As he addressed attendees, Back 40 Farm Group owner, Bill King, quoted Michael Pollan observing that, “the shared meal elevates eating from a mechanical process of fueling the body, to a ritual of family and community.” This quote is embodied by the people of Back 40 Farm Group. Alexis Barbalinardo and Enya Cunningham carefully tend to the organic fields of Back 40 Farm supplying our restaurants with beautiful, local produce. Chef Ian Vest transforms our farm produce into elegant and delicious creations at Back 40 Kitchen and Mill Street Bar & Table. Back 40 Mercantile co-owners, Jeff and Katrina Bischoff, together with store manager, Wendy Putnam, source and curate beautiful and environmentally conscious goods. All of these endeavors are unified under the mission of Back 40 Farm Group, guided by owners Bill and Lesley King, the true architects of this vision.

We would like to thank everyone who came out to celebrate May Day with us! We are grateful to our wonderful community for all of your support in the pursuit of our mission. For those of you who would like to get even more involved, we’re thrilled to announce that Back 40 Farm will now be hosting Friday Field Days for anyone looking to get some dirt under their fingernails.
